In 2018, Ykone brought us in on Cîroc's social media for the French market. One post a month, built around a still life of the bottle. Sometimes the classic bottle in a seasonal setting, winter or the end-of-year parties, sometimes a flavoured edition like Pineapple or Coconut, sometimes a special edition. That year, the French account was being merged into the global account, so our images would run as paid media on Instagram for France and on the French Facebook page. Twenty pieces of content in total.
The series had to hold together over a whole year, while giving each flavour a world of its own. We looked to art history for that. Mondrian's grids, Matisse's paper cut-outs, with that way of drawing with scissors and letting flat color do the work.
We started by sketching every image by hand, each flavour with its color, its setting and a few objects around it. Sophie and I then made all the backgrounds ourselves in paper art, cutting and layering sheets of colored paper into hills, waves and seesaws. Everything was shot in two days in the studio. The bottle always holds the center, with its cocktail somewhere close by.
